How The Yummy Pub Co.’s Anthony Pender uses Yapster to reach and engage his employees
A major highlight of the Casual Dining Show 2021 was being able to attend ‘The Pubs Leaders Panel’, featuring Co-Founder of The Yummy Pub Co., and our friend, Anthony Pender. Anthony shared how his team ‘were incredible’ throughout the pandemic.
It was moving to hear that even when their pub doors were closed, the kitchens remained open to help feed homeless, isolated & elderly people across London. It is this kindness, which rests at the core of his business, which has led to their pubs flourishing post-pandemic. Anthony went on to explain how ‘engaging the community is one of the reasons we have come out of covid really well, the loyalty that’s built meant there was a queue upon our re-opening’.
Athony’s care and enthusiasm for the Yummy team shone from the CDS stage. When asked about how he looked after his staff during the crisis, he responded that the ‘first thing [he] did was have a chat with Rob from Yapster’ to digitise Yummy’s energetic working environment between staff, as well as ‘phoning everyone to reassure them that we would survive’.
As the crisis progressed, The Yummy Pub Co. leadership team used Yapster’s newsfeed and private chat functionality to upload ‘45 second video updates multiple times a week’ to make the communication across the company ‘as transparent as possible’.
It is so rewarding to hear that The Yummy Pub Co. are now entering the 2021 Christmas Season ‘in a good place, with ⅔ of the team still there’. With a skilled, motivated team in place Anthony expects his business to flourish financially going forward, commenting that his investment in retaining his team through culture and communications was ‘the best money ever spent’!
